Day 3, Saturday: Late morning a driver took us from Melaka to KLCC (Kuala Lumpur City Center). A 2-hr drive took about 45 minutes longer due to traffic. This is the last weekend of a holiday so we are reminded that traffic, restaurants, shopping is all busier than normal. After hotel check-in, we spent the evening walking the streets and shops in the immediate area. We are in Bukit Bintang, aka the Times Square area of KL.
Day 4, Sunday: Church at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian. Great message and good coffee and fellowship afterwards. Wandered through some city neighborhoods on the walk home. Read and slept poolside for the rest of the day.
Day 5: Monday: This morning we both woke up feeling like we’re coming down with something. Hoping it’s not due to the terrible (terrible!) coughing on the plane trip here. That was several days ago though. Hm.
Regardless of feeling iffy, we spent the morning seeing sites. First walked mainly in above-ground walkway to the Petronas Towers then, passing by the KL Forest Eco Park Canopy Walk (across the street from St. Andrew’s), we headed to the Merdeka 118 building (2nd tallest in the world). We then walked down Petaling Street (the most popular street in China Town), rounded the bend to the Exchange TRX Mall, where there was a “serenity” park on the top floor, before making our way back to the hotel. By 11 AM we had over 20,000 steps in and took some rest at the hotel, had afternoon tea and relaxed before dinner.
Tomorrow our hope is to go to the Batu Caves or a neighborhood north of where we are - near the US Embassy. We’ll see how we’re feeling.
Overall impressions: We really like KL - it is a colorful city and everyone we’ve met has been very nice.
