I should start by putting our time in Melaka into context. We are staying in the Cultural Center (i.e., tourist destination). Outside of the city are subdivisions, strip malls, boulevard streets with green landscaping on either side, schools, restaurants, etc. What we are seeing are the historical bits and re-creations.
Walking from our hotel to the heritage center is approximately 20 minutes. The weather has been warm and humid. Not complaining, only communicating what we are experiencing. Multiple showers a day are not uncommon, yet, we have yet to be caught in the rain. After a few bright days we are thankful for some overcast clouds as the sun can be intense! I was more comfortable after buying a hat and sunglasses (the things we don’t pack).
Today we earned approximately 25,000 steps. We started out for the heritage center, starting on the river walk (my favorite) closer to our hotel. We explored church ruins (Dutch, British), temples (Chinese), a replica of the Melaka Sultanate Palace from the 15 century, the Proclamation of Independence Memorial (Independence regained: August 31, 1957). And malls. Malls are a great way to get steps in in an air conditioned environment!
Thank you for tuning in!!!
